The reason for this is that wine needs to be stored correctly to stay fresh. Even a few hours in the wrong situation can have a negative effect.

We reserve the right not to replace the wine in situations where we believe our guarantee is being misused.

Thankfully, faults are not common but they can occur.

The two main ones are...

‘Corked‘ wines have a musty smell, a bit like wet cardboard. Many corks these days are artificial but some are still made from the bark of the cork tree. These are best for wines with long ageing potential but may have some natural variation and occasional faults. That's why screw caps are actually better for many wines which are designed for drinking young.

Wine can also be "oxidised". This can happen if oxygen makes its way into the bottle, altering the flavour of the wine. Sometimes this can even result in a smell similar to nail varnish.

Wine should be stored lying down to keep the cork from drying out.
Keep it out of direct sunlight. Keep it cool.
If you feel you may not finish the bottle in one sitting, it is advisable to use a "wine saver" which eliminates oxygen from the bottle
