How the wine is made
Grand C is defined by a commitment to purity and patience, utilizing only the first press of 100% Pinot Blanc grapes to ensure the most delicate juice is extracted. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo alcoholic fermentation at low, strictly controlled temperatures to preserve their fresh, aromatic intensity. Following the traditional method (Méthode Traditionelle), the wine is aged for 24 months on the lees, allowing the bubbles to develop their signature fine, persistent texture.
Why we love this producer
Grand C is a brilliant meeting of minds, founded in 2009 by Axel Wulfken, the former long-standing manager of Champagne Moët & Chandon, and Jacques Cattin, a legendary Alsatian winemaker and President of the Crémant d'Alsace association. Based in the idyllic, sun-soaked village of Voegtlinshoffen at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, they combine elite Champagne expertise with centuries of family-run Alsatian heritage. We love them because they have shaken off the old-fashioned image of regional wines, delivering precise, ultra-modern sparkling wines wrapped in contemporary elegance.
Sustainability & Farming Practices
· Certifications: Integrated Farm Management with operations running out of a state-of-the-art, eco-designed winery built specifically for low-impact production.
· Vineyard Practices: The vineyards are situated at altitudes of 200 to 400 metres on optimal south and east-facing slopes, allowing natural airflow and maximum sunshine to minimise the need for chemical treatments. Grapes are sorted meticulously by hand in the vineyard during harvest, protecting soil health and promoting biodiversity across the estate's historic plots.
