Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: A gorgeous pour with golden nuances and a fine, lively perlage. The nose is wonderfully discreet, opening with delicate floral touches, hints of fresh citrus, and soft notes of ripe pear, leading to a taste that is impeccably pleasant, refreshing, and crisp on the finish.
  • Classic Pairings: This versatile sparkling wine is an ideal match for fresh seafood platters, goat cheese, or light vegetable-based hors d'oeuvres.
  • Irish Favourite Pairings: For a simple but luxurious pairing, enjoy this Crémant with a mature, nutty Irish Farmhouse Cheddar; the wine’s refreshing acidity and delicate fruit notes provide a clean, crisp contrast to the dense, savoury richness of the cheese. For a flavourful home-cooked meal, serve it alongside a fresh Chicken Stir-fry; the wine’s bright citrus notes and fine bubbles lift the umami flavours of the soy and ginger, while its crisp, dry finish beautifully complements the crisp-tender texture of the stir-fried vegetables and chicken.
  • A note on "Extra Dry": In the world of sparkling wine, "Extra Dry" can be slightly misleading! Despite the name, it actually means the wine has a tiny touch of softness—it is just slightly less dry than a "Brut" style. This makes it incredibly approachable and versatile, as that subtle roundness makes it a delight to drink on its own or paired with food.

Awards & Accolades

  • Vivino Recognition: Proudly holds a place in the top 19% of all wines in the world and the top 18% of all wines from the Crémant d'Alsace region, reflecting its high quality and popularity among wine enthusiasts.

How the wine is made

Grand C is defined by a commitment to purity and patience, utilizing only the first press of 100% Pinot Blanc grapes to ensure the most delicate juice is extracted. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo alcoholic fermentation at low, strictly controlled temperatures to preserve their fresh, aromatic intensity. Following the traditional method (Méthode Traditionelle), the wine is aged for 24 months on the lees, allowing the bubbles to develop their signature fine, persistent texture.

Why we love this producer

Grand C is a brilliant meeting of minds, founded in 2009 by Axel Wulfken, the former long-standing manager of Champagne Moët & Chandon, and Jacques Cattin, a legendary Alsatian winemaker and President of the Crémant d'Alsace association. Based in the idyllic, sun-soaked village of Voegtlinshoffen at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, they combine elite Champagne expertise with centuries of family-run Alsatian heritage. We love them because they have shaken off the old-fashioned image of regional wines, delivering precise, ultra-modern sparkling wines wrapped in contemporary elegance.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

·        Certifications: Integrated Farm Management with operations running out of a state-of-the-art, eco-designed winery built specifically for low-impact production.

·        Vineyard Practices: The vineyards are situated at altitudes of 200 to 400 metres on optimal south and east-facing slopes, allowing natural airflow and maximum sunshine to minimise the need for chemical treatments. Grapes are sorted meticulously by hand in the vineyard during harvest, protecting soil health and promoting biodiversity across the estate's historic plots.
