Experience the rich complexity of a vintage sparkling wine crafted by the former manager of Champagne Moët & Chandon. Sourced from a single exceptional harvest in the sun-drenched hills of Alsace, the Grand C Crémant d'Alsace Extra Brut Vintage is a stunning showcase of 100% Chardonnay. It is a highly sophisticated, ultra-dry alternative to mainstream fizz, perfectly bridging the gap between boutique French craftsmanship and world-class luxury.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: A vibrant nose of crunchy green apple, zesty citrus, mango, and white blossoms evolves into a complex palate of toasted almonds, fresh brioche, and yeast bread, driven by an incredibly fine perlage and a long, mineral-forward finish.
  • Classic Pairings: An outstanding match for fresh oysters, pan-seared scallops with lemon butter, or aged, hard cheeses like a mature Comté or Parmigiano-Reggiano.
  • Irish Favourite Pairings: Sensational with a fresh, fish and chips from the local chipper; the bone-dry Extra Brut style means there is no residual sugar, allowing its piercing citrus acidity to completely slice through the rich batter and oil. On a quieter evening at home, pour it alongside a warm, comforting chicken and leek pie, the wine's creamy yeast and brioche notes, developed over years of bottle maturation, beautifully complement the savoury pastry and buttery cream sauce. A nice light Charcuterie board would also definitely pair brilliantly to this crémant.

Awards & Accolades

  • Vivino Recognition: Highly regarded for its structure and depth, this single-vintage French sparkler ranks comfortably within the top 17% of all wines in the world and sits in the top 16% of all wines rated from the Crémant d'Alsace region.

How the wine is made

This vintage Crémant is produced exclusively from 100% hand-picked Chardonnay grapes grown in the shell-limestone, granite, and clay soils of Voegtlinshoffen. Adhering to the rigorous rules of the appellation, the yields are strictly limited and only the premium first-press juice is used to secure pure fruit expression. The wine undergoes traditional bottle fermentation and is left to mature on its fine lees for an extraordinary period of at least 36 months—and up to 60 months depending on the vintage—which is far beyond the legal requirement and instils its hallmark Champagne-style complexity.

Why we love this producer

Grand C is a brilliant meeting of minds, founded in 2009 by Axel Wulfken, the former long-standing manager of Champagne Moët & Chandon, and Jacques Cattin, a legendary Alsatian winemaker and President of the Crémant d'Alsace association. Based in the idyllic, sun-soaked village of Voegtlinshoffen at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, they combine elite Champagne expertise with centuries of family-run Alsatian heritage. We love them because they have shaken off the old-fashioned image of regional wines, delivering precise, ultra-modern sparkling wines wrapped in contemporary elegance.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

  • Certifications: Integrated Farm Management with operations running out of a state-of-the-art, eco-designed winery built specifically for low-impact production.
  • Vineyard Practices: The vineyards are situated at altitudes of 200 to 400 metres on optimal south and east-facing slopes, allowing natural airflow and maximum sunshine to minimise the need for chemical treatments. Grapes are sorted meticulously by hand in the vineyard during harvest, protecting soil health and promoting biodiversity across the estate's historic plots.
