Awards & Accolades
Official Awards: Consistently awarded top honours at international competitions, including Gold Medals at the *Berlin Wine Trophy* and *AWC Vienna*.
Vivino: Highly rated by thousands of wine lovers around the globe, earning a place in the Top 12% of all wines in the world on Vivino.
How the wine is made
Grown in organically farmed vineyards across the sun-soaked plains of Leporano on the Gulf of Taranto, benefiting from limestone-rich soils and gentle sea breezes that temper the Mediterranean heat. The grapes are carefully harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed, and subjected to temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration at 24–26°C to extract vibrant colour and soft tannins. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes a brief refinement in French oak barrels and thermo-conditioned vats, retaining its pristine fruit purity while developing a velvety texture. -
Why we love this producer
Founded in 1921 in Leporano, Varvaglione is one of Southern Italy’s oldest and most prestigious wineries, now led by the fourth generation of the Varvaglione family. Situated in the heart of Puglia, they blend a deep respect for historical winemaking traditions with state-of-the-art sustainable technology to showcase native Italian varieties. We love them because they consistently deliver organic, estate-bottled wines that offer remarkable elegance, generosity, and authentic Pugliese soul.
Sustainability & Farming Practices
Organic Farming (EU Organic), cultivated without synthetic chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or harmful herbicides.
Vineyard Practices: The estate uses low-impact canopy management, cover cropping to nourish natural soil life, energy-efficient cellar technologies, and minimal-sulphur bottling techniques to keep environmental impact low.
