Grape Chenin Blanc

An elegant, bright, and deeply expressive white wine that perfectly captures the energy of South Africa’s coastal vineyards. This organic Chenin Blanc strikes a beautiful balance between rich orchard fruit and a crisp, mineral-driven finish, making it a spectacular crowd-pleaser for any gathering. It is the ultimate weekend treat for white wine lovers looking to step away from the usual Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and experience a bottle with genuine soul and substance.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: The nose opens with inviting aromas of fresh yellow apples, ripe lemon, and a hint of tropical pineapple. On the palate, vibrant acidity beautifully frames layers of juicy peach and crisp quince, leading to a textured, clean, and highly expressive dry finish.
  • Classic Pairings: Pairs beautifully with pan-fried sea bass in lemon butter, grilled goat's cheese salads, or a fragrant, mildly spiced Thai green curry.
  • Irish Favourite Pairings: An absolute match for a classic chipper fish and chips; the wine's vibrant, natural acidity cuts through the rich batter and contrasts beautifully with the salty, starchy chips. For a cozy night in, it pairs brilliantly with a mature Irish Cheddar and ham toastie, where the crisp fruit notes effortlessly cut through the fat and richness of the melted cheese.

How the wine is made

The Chenin Blanc grapes are sourced from certified organic vineyards situated within 40 kilometres of the Atlantic Ocean, benefiting from cooling maritime breezes. The vines are planted in ancient, decomposed granite and sandy soils, which naturally restrict yields and impart a distinct mineral complexity to the fruit. At harvest, the grapes are meticulously bunch-sorted and destemmed before undergoing natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. To build texture and mouthfeel without losing its bright, fruit-driven character, the wine is aged on its fine lees for three months before blending and bottling.

Why we love this producer

Reyneke is a true pioneer of sustainable viticulture, holding the distinction of being the first Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyard in South Africa. Founded by philosopher and surfer Johan Reyneke on the hills of Stellenbosch, the estate operates under a deeply holistic ethos where the farm is treated as a self-sustaining, living organism. Beyond environmental stewardship, Reyneke is highly celebrated for its social justice initiatives, channeling proceeds from specific wines into homeownership and higher education for their farm workers and families.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

Reyneke sets the gold standard for eco-conscious winemaking with a strict, chemical-free philosophy.

  • Certifications: Certified Organic (Ceres) and Certified Sustainable by the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) body.
  • Vineyard Practices: The estate avoids all synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, relying instead on companion planting, natural composts, and a resident herd of ducks to manage vineyard pests naturally.
  • This intensive, natural approach ensures healthier, living soils that yield more vibrant, terroir-driven fruit while actively protecting the local ecosystem for future generations.
