Domaines des Galloires Anjou 50 delivers a wonderfully vibrant and authentic expression of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc, prioritizing absolute purity of fruit. With its supple texture, delicate tannins, and bright red berry profile, this medium-bodied red wine avoids the heavy masking of traditional additives to let its true regional character shine. It is a brilliant crowd-pleaser for natural wine enthusiasts and traditionalists alike, making it a fantastic weekend treat to enjoy alongside a comforting meal.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

The Profile: A bright, aromatic nose filled with fresh raspberries, red currants, and a subtle touch of leafy herbal spice opens into a smooth, supple palate with soft tannins and a clean, wonderfully refreshing finish.

Classic Pairings: Complements grilled pork chops with apple compote, roasted duck breast, or a selection of earthy, semi-hard cheeses like Saint-Nectaire.

Irish Favourite Pairings: An outstanding partner for a traditional home-cooked shepherd's pie or a slow-simmered beef stew, where the wine's balanced acidity cuts cleanly through the rich, savory meat fats to refresh the palate. It is also an absolute winner alongside a classic Friday night takeaway snack box of fried chicken and chips—the crisp structure and bright red fruit profile effortlessly slice through the heavy oils of the crispy batter, beautifully balancing the meal.

How the wine is made

Grown on the scenic, elevated hillsides overlooking the Loire Valley, the Cabernet Franc grapes are carefully harvested at peak maturity. The family employs a strict low-intervention philosophy in the cellar, utilizing temperature-controlled fermentation to capture the grape's lively, fresh primary character. Uniquely, the entire vinification process is completed with absolutely no added sulphites, ensuring a remarkably honest, clean, and unadulterated liquid that captures the authentic character of the region.

Why we love this producer

Domaine des Galloires is a stunning independent estate that has been lovingly operated by the Toublanc family for seven generations on the heights of Drain. Balancing ancestral tradition with modern innovation, they manage 43 hectares of pristine vines situated right on the geographical border of the Anjou wine region. We love their deep-seated passion, their refusal to rely on heavy-handed chemical treatments, and their unique focus on estate biodiversity that beautifully respects their local ecosystem.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

Highlighting a deep respect for the ecosystem, the methods behind this bottle emphasize clean, natural agriculture.

Vineyard Practices:

The estate practices meticulous mechanical weeding across 100% of their plots instead of using chemical herbicides—an eco-friendly choice that requires ten times more manual labor but significantly improves soil vitality. They prioritize native cover crops and completely eliminate added sulphites during the winemaking process to keep the wine as close to nature as possible. Healthier soils yield more vibrant, terroir-driven fruit while protecting the local ecosystem for future generations, allowing the pure, unadulterated character of the Loire landscape to express itself cleanly in the glass.
