I Veroni

Made in the hills of Chianti Rufina in Tuscany, this single-vineyard Sangiovese is full of character. Expect lovely flavours of ripe red berries, balanced by smooth tannins and a fresh, elegant finish. A beautifully made Tuscan red that combines the warmth and charm of traditional Italian winemaking with a touch of refinement. Recognised on Vivino as being among the top 3% of wines worldwide.

 Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: Enticing aromas of wild blackberry, crushed cherry, and cedar open into a lush, velvety palate layered with dark plum, warm spice, and subtle tobacco, finishing with remarkable length and crisp acidity.
  • Classic Pairings: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-cooked wild boar ragù with pappardelle, or aged Pecorino Toscano cheese.

Irish Favourite Pairings:

  • Roast beef with rosemary and garlic – the richness of the beef works beautifully with Sangiovese's red fruit flavours and tannins.

  • Slow-cooked Irish beef stew – a lovely match, particularly with a rich gravy and root vegetables.

  • Irish cheddar – mature or aged farmhouse cheddar brings out the wine's fruit and savoury character.

Awards & Accolades

  • Official Awards: Prestigious DOCG Riserva designation from Chianti Rufina, Tuscany's celebrated high-altitude subzone acclaimed by international wine critics for exceptional aging potential and purity.
  • Vivino Recognition: Ranked in the Top 3% of all wines in the world on Vivino, providing instant social proof from global wine enthusiasts.

How the wine is made

Crafted exclusively from 100% hand-harvested Sangiovese grown in the limestone-marl soils of the single "Vigneto Quona" vineyard in the Apennine foothills. Following a careful fermentation designed to preserve fruit clarity, the wine ages for approximately 18 to 24 months in 500-liter French oak barrels before undergoing extended bottle refinement. Low-intervention handling and rigorous grape selection ensure the pure, vibrant personality of high-altitude Tuscan terroir shines in every glass.

Why we love this producer

Fattoria I Veroni is an ancient Tuscan estate with winemaking heritage stretching back to the 16th century, thoughtfully restored and family-run by the Malesci family. Situated in Chianti Rufina northeast of Florence, the estate benefits from dramatic day-to-night temperature swings that yield fresh, bright Sangiovese with unmatched depth. We admire their dedication to single-vineyard parcel crafting and organic stewardship, delivering authentic Tuscan soul without aggressive oak manipulation.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

  • Certifications: Officially Certified Organic estate.
  • Vineyard Practices: Hand-harvesting all fruit, managing soil fertility through cover cropping, avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and maintaining local woodland biodiversity across their high-elevation terraces.
