I Veroni

A beautifully rich and traditional Tuscan dessert wine, I Veroni Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina Riserva is made for those special moments at the end of a meal. Made from carefully dried grapes and aged for years in small wooden barrels, it develops layers of dried fruit, honey, nuts and spice. A lovely wine to enjoy slowly, whether paired with dessert, a cheeseboard or simply a quiet moment after dinner.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: Rich aromas of dried figs, toasted nuts, honey and warm spice, with hints of citrus and dark chocolate. The palate is smooth, rounded and almost creamy, with a long, warming finish and plenty of character.
  • Classic Pairings:
    • Traditional Italian almond biscuits (cantucci), perfect for dipping into the wine.
    • Blue cheese or mature, aged cheeses, where the sweetness balances the saltiness.
    • Almond tart, fruit cake or pastries filled with dried fruit and nuts.
  • Irish Favourite Pairings:
    • Warm apple tart with custard: The baked apple, cinnamon and buttery pastry complement the wine's dried fruit and honey flavours.
    • Irish farmhouse blue cheese and crackers: The sweetness of the wine balances the salty, savoury flavours of the cheese.
    • Warm apple pie or a cinnamon doughnut from the local chipper: A lovely indulgent match, with the pastry and spice bringing out the wine's nutty, caramel-like character.

How the wine is made

Soft pressure is applied to the dry grapes to obtain the must then decanted and aged for at least 10 years in oak and chestnut casks of 100 l capacity; followed by a further 12 to 14 months in bottle before release.

 Why we love this producer

Fattoria I Veroni is a historic estate in Tuscany's Chianti Rufina region, where winemaking roots extend back to the 16th century, now passionately run by the Malesci family. Situated along the cooling breezes of the Sieve Valley, their vineyards benefit from dramatic temperature shifts that lock in natural freshness and aromatic intensity. We admire their commitment to making honest, single-estate organic wines that deliver authentic Tuscan character without pretense or heavy oak intervention.

Sustainability & Farming Practices

  • Certifications: Certified Organic (Vino Biologico).
  • Vineyard Practices: 100% hand-harvesting, strict avoidance of synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides, organic soil management through native cover cropping, and surrounding woodland preservation to support natural vineyard biodiversity.
