Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

The Profile:

A fragrant nose of crushed wild strawberries, juicy morello cherries, and subtle hints of violet leads into a silky, light-bodied palate balanced by crisp acidity and gentle, polished tannins.

Classic Pairings:

Seared tuna steaks, Sicilian pasta alla Norma with roasted aubergine and ricotta salata, or a gourmet board of semi-firm cheeses like young Pecorino and Fontina.

Irish Favourite Pairings:

  • Traditional Irish Sausage & Colcannon – The wine's bright red berry fruit and fresh acidity balance the rich, savoury sausages and buttery mashed potatoes beautifully.
  • Homemade Beef & Guinness Pie – A lighter red like Frappato complements the slow-cooked beef without overpowering it, while its lively fruit flavours lift the rich gravy.
  • Irish Charcuterie & Local Cheese Board – Pair with Irish salami, air-dried ham, young cheddar and Cashel Blue for an easy sharing platter. The wine's fresh fruit and soft tannins work wonderfully with cured meats and mild cheeses.

How the wine is made

Crafted by the Ardagna family across five generations in the countryside of Salemi, Western Sicily, this wine is grown in high-altitude, organically farmed vineyards at 500 metres above sea level. Cultivated without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers on clay and limestone soils, the grapes benefit from warm sun and cool mountain breezes that preserve their signature aromatics and vibrant acidity. Following careful hand harvesting and strict quality sorting, the grapes undergo gentle, temperature-controlled fermentation and low-intervention aging in stainless steel tanks, ensuring the final wine retains its pure, unoaked fruit character and lively Mediterranean spirit.

Why we love this producer

Deeply rooted in the countryside of Salemi, Musìta is a family-owned estate where five generations of the Ardagna family have cultivated the land for over 120 years. The estate's passion lies in showcasing Sicily's native grape varieties while honouring the Moorish and Mediterranean heritage of the region. We love Musìta for their commitment to bottling authentic Sicilian soul—blending historic viticulture with modern organic farming to produce wines of exceptional quality, character, and accessible charm.
