Grape Sauvignon Blanc

Crisp, vibrant, and beautifully complex, the Rustenberg Sauvignon Blanc is a masterclass in high-altitude winemaking from one of South Africa’s most historic estates. Bypassing overly green styles, this white wine leans into a slightly richer, unwooded profile that masterfully balances mouth-watering tropical fruits with classic herbaceous tones. It is an exceptional crowd-pleaser and an absolute fridge-staple for anyone who loves an energetic, refreshing glass of white wine.

🥂 Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

  • The Profile: Brimming with intense aromas of green pepper, asparagus, and gooseberry, the palate expands into lush layers of ripe pineapple, melon, and passion fruit, all pinned together by a bracing, zesty acidity and a wonderfully long, textured finish derived from extended lees contact.
  • Classic Pairings: Pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, grilled sea bass with lemon butter, goat's cheese tarts, or a vibrant summer pasta salad.
  • 🇮🇪 Everyday Irish Pairings: Match it with a classic Irish chipper Fish & Chips; the wine’s striking, vibrant acidity instantly cuts through the rich, oily batter and refreshes your palate between bites. It is also an absolute dream with a comforting, home-cooked Fish Pie; the subtle roundness of the wine's texture effortlessly complements the rich cream sauce, while the crisp citrus highlights lift the heavy, comforting layer of mashed potato.

🌿 Why We Love This Producer

Established in 1682 against the striking backdrop of the Simonsberg Mountain, Rustenberg is one of Stellenbosch’s oldest and most revered wine estates. Steeped in centuries of family-run heritage, the Barlow family seamlessly blends deep historical respect with modern viticulture to create world-class wines that capture their unique geography.

"Our unique high-altitude vineyards allow us to capture a rare freshness and intensity, ensuring that every vintage tells the ancient story of our mountain home." — The Rustenberg Wine Team

🌱 Sustainability & Farming Practices

Rustenberg is deeply dedicated to environmental stewardship, managing their estate as part of a balanced, living ecosystem.

  • Certifications: Formally recognized as a key member of the Greater Simonsberg Mountain Conservancy.
  • Vineyard Practices: The estate implements strict bee-safe farming practices and plants bee-friendly cover crops to naturally boost biodiversity. They also actively protect extensive tracts of native fynbos wilderness on the property and utilize free-roaming cattle to sustain natural soil cycles.
  • Healthier, living soils allow the vines to develop deeper roots and absorb pure regional character, yielding more vibrant fruit while preserving the precious local water catchments and native wildlife for future generations.
